Country Weekly - April 29, 2003

Before Natalie Maines' anti-President Bush comments plunged the Dixie Chicks into controversy, the trio flew into the history books by setting the all-time single-day concert ticket sales record.  On March 1 over 867,000 tickets were pre-sold that day to the trio's upcoming American tour, which begins May 1 in Greenville, S.C.  Before they even put their feet onstage, they earned a gross of $49 million dollars!  (By comparison, Kenny Chesney, the top-grossing country act last year, earned abou $23 million.)  The Chicks' opening-day sales were bigger than those of pop counterparts Madonna, U2, Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney, Backstreet Boys and *NSync.
